I was sharing with my ten-year-old that it was time to update the holiday toy lists for 2025, and you know his reply? We need a LEGO set list! Bingo. Give that kid a raise, because over here, LEGO sets are in high demand, and they make perfect gifts. (I am pretty sure that the majority of their fine motor skills were and still are developed through the endless building projects in their bedrooms.) Here are the best LEGO sets for kids aged 8 to 14. (Looking for Duplo sets? Leave a comment and let me know you’re interested!)

Holidays are here
Before we dive into all things LEGO, be sure to bookmark this link to return to the best toys for kids 2025-2026. This list will help you tremendously with your holiday gift giving.

TOYS FOR 2025
Gah, these toys are the best. UPDATED for 2025. These are the best toys for kids.
How this is organized
Since all the official LEGO sets on the market make my head spin, I’ve narrowed down our favorites into different categories. From nature to your child’s favorite video games, I’ve scanned my kids’ rooms to share our favorites.
So rather than an explosion of sets to pick from, I’ve grouped the best LEGO sets for you to skim and scan.
What I’ve observed is that younger children enjoy LEGOS in open-ended play with their own creative builds. Where older kids also do this, I noticed the more challenging sets begin to take the lead.
The suggested age range is 8-14 because this is the age range where I have seen LEGO sets truly take off. Older children seem to enjoy the challenge and display the completed sets as a badge of honor.

Lego 3-in-1 LEGO Sets
Oh, how the 3-in-1 is genius. How do they come up with these creative kits?! My middle son thinks these make the perfect set for any child who enjoys Legos.

Forest Animals
Have an animal lover? This set makes a fox, owl, and squirrel. And yes, we have all three.

Astronaut
Can I pick a favorite? Perfect. This is it. This set makes an astronaut, a space jet, or a space dog. I love seeing this build on my son’s shelf.

Space Roller Coaster
And while we are on the space theme, have you seen this 3-in-1 roller coaster? Gah. Take all my money, Lego.

Flower Pot
Watering can, rain boots, or birds? Your child’s choice. This makes the winter days a little brighter.

Camera
Why is this sooooooo cute?! With an under $20 price tag, this 3-in-1 set makes a great gift for your child or someone else.
Advent LEGO Calendars
When I was little, we would pin a felt picture to the felt Christmas tree to count down until the big day. While I love the nostalgia of that idea, this LEGO Advent calendar also has me swooning.

Harry Potter Advent
Each day has a new buildable surprise. Fine, LEGO. Add to cart.

Frozen Advent Calendar
Have a Frozen fan? Don’t worry, LEGO thought of that too. (Of course they did.)
Disney LEGO Sets
The magic of Disney comes alive with LEGO. Like, literally, because that is the name of the first set listed here. (Insert cheeky emoji.)

Magic of Disney
This is the perfect set to get ready for an upcoming Disney trip or to remember one you’ve taken.

Disney Characters
My ten-year-old had so much fun building each one of these to put on his LEGO shelf. They truly are the sweetest and inspire imaginary play once built.

Stitch
The movie this year has sparked a new interest in Lilo and Stitch, and this LEGO build is a colorful and cheery addition!

UP House
You don’t have to be an UP fan to enjoy this adorable house held up by balloons.
Marvel LEGO Sets
In this house, Marvel is number one. The boys have watched the movies with their dad, and my youngest acts out scenes for days…and days, and days. So putting it into LEGO form is a yes for us!

Final Battle
What is a final battle without a lightning bolt? Honestly, I have no idea since I haven’t watched all the movies, but it checks. I am here for all the energy this build brings.

Iron Man Hand
This Iron Man Hand was our first, Look mom I did it! LEGO build. And fine. It is officially called a Nano Gauntlet, but those who are not familiar with Marvel refer to it as an Iron Man hand. (Okay, maybe it is just me.)

Marvel Minifigs
Give me one good reason why your Marvel/LEGO fan doesn’t need these? Heck, I need them. They would look so cute on my desk.

Subway Train Scene
Apparently, this is a pretty important scene from Spider-Man. I’ll take my youngest’s word for it and add it to our LEGO collection here.
Harry Potter LEGO Sets
Calling all Harry Potter fans! These make a precious gift for you or your HP friend.

Harry Potter Castle
Older kids get a kick out of this challenging set. Bonus: it comes with 11 minifigures. (Whoop! Whoop!)

Hedwig
Hedwig has moving wings?! Stop it right now. Which LEGO Creator came up with this clever build?

Diagon Alley
Again, I am not as invested in Harry Potter as my children are. Per my ten-year-old, this Diagon Alley is a big deal. (And it looks super cool!) Recommended age is 18+, but that won’t deter him.

Chomping Monster
What is this thing you ask? I absolutely have no idea. But the creative thinking that went into Harry Potter and LEGO is far from dismal.
Star Wars LEGO Sets
Star Wars has arrived in the LEGO group chat, and I am not mad about it. These sets also feature collectible minifigures that kids can keep on display or use for creative play.

Imperial Star
This Imperial Star Destroyer (try saying that three times fast) sits proudly on my middle’s LEGO shelf. I don’t know how you build with 1555 pieces that are the same color, but he does!

R2-D2
R2-D2. Any questions? I didn’t think so. This LEGO set is straight out of a Star Wars classic scene.
Super Mario LEGO Sets
LEGO wasn’t messing around when they merged building with serious play construction. The Super Mario on this list actually moves!

Bowser Express Train
This Boswer Express Train is new and is so detailed! Running to show my ten-year-old Lego builder.

Piranha Plant
Another LEGO build for the serious builder and Mario fan. As long as this doesn’t actually chomp off my fingers, I’m good with bringing it into our house. (But I still don’t trust it.)

Mario & Yoshi
Mario moves!! My oldest has this LEGO build on his desk, and it is so cool to watch Mario bop up and down on Yoshi.
LEGO Art Sets and Nature
Gah, these are GORGEOUS. My twelve-year-old put The Great Wave together, and it is beautiful. This Milky Way looks equally great, if not better!

Milky Way
We do not have this Milky Way decor yet, but it stopped my scroll! My oldest has a birthday close to Christmas, and grandparents are always looking for ideas. This may be it!

The Great Wave
This LEGO set interests adults as well as older kids! The LEGOS are a different shape and they go on in layers.

Bonsai Tree
Every drive home from Florida, we pass the Bonsai shop, and my husband asks me if I’d like a tree. My response from now on will be only if it is made out of bricks.

Potted Plants
If minifigures had a plant version, this would be it. These potted plants are sweet to build and bring joy to my son’s bedroom.

Dinosaur Fossil
Have a future archeologist? Hide the pieces in kinetic sand before building. (Just kidding, LEGO is complicated enough!)
LEGO Trains
You read that correctly. LEGO has remote control trains, and they do not disappoint. (Like, not even a little.) I added a holiday train in the holiday section below.

Remote Control Train
My oldest got this a few years ago for his birthday, and it was a HUGE hit. If you have a child who enjoys wooden trains, this is the next level.

Harry Potter Train
Of course, Harry Potter also has a train! This train does not move, but is perfect for a display build.

Extra Tracks
If you give a mouse a cookie…he’s going to want more LEGO tracks. Obvi.
Winter and Christmas
Seasonal LEGO sets are so much fun and bring a little more excitement to the change of pace. Anyone else have endless builders on holiday break?

Winter House
Yes, the front of this house is cute. But the back? No notes. This is the sweetest set.

Christmas Tree
This is an excellent gift for someone headed to NYC to see the Christmas tree or anyone who loves the joy of the tree during the holidays.

Christmas Train
We do not own this train, but are in search of a new one to go around our tree. This one caught my eye!
More LEGO Themes
And just when you thought you couldn’t get any more LEGO themes in this roundup, poof. Here they are. From Minecraft to The Legend of Zelda, there is something for everyone.

Minecraft Crafting Table
Ooooooohkay. This Minecraft Crafting table is precious. Fire up the Lava Chicken and cue up the song as your child builds. (Sorry if that is now in your head for the rest of the day.)

Legend of Zelda
My boys were on a big Zelda kick, and I loved watching them play. The quests were super cool, and they were always exchanging their backpack supplies with the most random items. This Zelda tree is a great way to replay some of the scenes.

Monkie Kid
Okay, I had to look this one up. We don’t have this LEGO set, but when I heard it was popular, I wanted to make sure I had something for Monkie Kid fans.
Minifigures
What is it about minifigures that makes me want to collect them all?! There is just something about them that makes me smile. Well played, LEGO.

Display Case
If you have minifigures, you need a display case. Where else will they live? Let’s get them out of your couch cushions.

Minifigures
This is the most adorable set and makes a great gift under $10. Perfect for stocking stuffers!

Marvel Minifigures
Give me one good reason why your Marvel/LEGO fan doesn’t need these? Heck, give them to your colleagues! Everyone will think these are cute!
Phew! We did it!!! This roundup was a labor of love to put together, and I cannot be prouder. Cannot wait to see which set you choose!
Why no LEGO Technic suggestions? We haven’t tried any in a few years, and I want to make sure I share what we know. Have a favorite? I’d love to hear about it in the comments.
