Talking a walk outside with a scoop and container can begin the exploration of non standard measurement.
This opportunity to play with measurement tools allows your preschoolers to learn concepts such as counting and explore open ended conversations such as, “I wonder how many scoops of water my container will hold.” (estimation)
As we explored the outdoors, we stopped when we came across objects that were able to be scooped into the container. My preschooler and I thought about how many scoops it would take to fill the container and tested it out.
