Have you tried water bead outdoor races?
Bring your water beads outside! It’s time to get kids moving with water bead outdoor races!
It was close to bedtime, yet no one was ready. I am pretty sure you can relate.
So we detoured a bit and got our jitters out with water bead play.
Only this time, the water beads aren’t for sensory play. They are for an ultimate movement game. And it was a blast!

What are water beads?
If you are new to water beads, I have everything covered right here in this post, Water Beads for Kids. Water beads are suggested for children 4+.
If you have your bag ready to go, let them soak for 6-8 hours, and then the outdoor game is ready to roll!

This outdoor water bead activity has kids moving!
However, that isn’t all that is happening. Behind the scenes, children are:
using hand-eye coordination
strengthening gross motor muscles in the body
moving the body up and down with control
transporting objects to improve equilibrium
demonstrating locomotion and flexibility
practicing playing a game with rules – (just like our chalk game board!)
There is one main objective in this water bead game.
The idea is to scoop up the water beads with your spoon from one end of the line and bring them over to your container on the other side.
The person that transports the most water beads to the container when the timer rings, wins!

How I set up this outdoor water bead activity:
Days with Grey is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program. As an Amazon Associate, I earn from qualifying purchases. Read more about these links in my disclosure policy.
Supplies to play:
3 repurposed transparent containers
a large container filled on the other side of the line
Set your timer for about 3 minutes and let the games begin!
Watch as everyone fills the spoon with water beads on one end, and race back to the other side to fill the container! Everyone was cheering one another on as they scooped and transported the water beads from either end.
When the timer rings, challenge your kids to take a close look, make a prediction on which container has the most.
This water bead outdoor extravaganza race is a blast!
