Learning Benefits of Halloween Kerplunk
My goal with this Halloween activity is to invite children into problem-solving and making predictions.
This is also a great activity to explore weight and balance.
When we create easy ideas that explore big topics, kids have prior knowledge to expand thinking in grade school.
Let’s offer as many hands-on activities as possible in the early years. Halloween Frozen Water Play and Eyeball Soup are two other exciting Halloween STEM ideas.
Setting Up Pumpkin Kerplunk
I knew I needed a few specific items. I also had a hunch I had everything I already needed.
Here, I used a plastic bin with holes from the dollar store.
I added uncooked spaghetti to either side and laid the pumpkins on top.
The pumpkins were heavier than expected, so the boys added extra spaghetti as they reset the game.
Remember, playing and allowing the thinking to happen is an integral part of this Halloween activity. We want our children to test new ideas.
