This outdoor water bead activity has kids moving!
However, that isn’t all that is happening. Behind the scenes, children are:
- Balancing
- Using hand-eye coordination
- Strengthening gross motor muscles
- Moving the body with control
- Transporting objects
- Demonstrating steady movements
- Practicing games with rules
There is one main objective in this water bead game.
The idea is to scoop up the water beads with your spoon from one end of the line and bring them over to your container on the other side.
The person that transports the most water beads to the container when the timer rings, wins!

Supplies to play:
- plastic spoons
- 3 repurposed transparent containers
- a large container filled on the other side of the line
- sidewalk chalk
- water beads
Set your timer for about 3 minutes and let the games begin!
Watch as everyone fills the spoon with water beads on one end, and race back to the other side to fill the container! Everyone was cheering one another on as they scooped and transported the water beads from either end.
When the timer rings, challenge your kids to take a close look, make a prediction on which container has the most.
