Who knew painting rocks could be so exciting?
A while back, my boys found these large rocks on a hiking trip. Somehow they convinced their dad that they needed to make it back to our home. After months of hanging out with our bushes, the rocks got a makeover. Painting rocks activity is one of the practical ways to pass some time and explore colors on texture!

Painting rocks make a creative art activity for kids!
The truth is, I needed a quick workout, and my children needed a little jumpstart on their play. We have painted lots in the past, so the setup goes pretty quickly.
First time painting? Here is how to paint with kids. After a few times painting, you will see your children take the lead as well.
As the boy painted in the garage, I hopped on my exercise bike for a quick ride. I like the 20-minute workout, and this kept thier attention for the majority of the time. Once they finished, they got on their bikes to look for more rocks. – Love an activity that extends itself!
Setting up painting for kids doesn’t need much.
In fact, we use the same supplies, again and again, to build up the routine.
Paint goes in the muffin tin, bodies go on our old cycling mat (linked in supplies), and builder’s paper is used to catch any drips.
I also use primary colors in the muffin tin to allow new colors to be discovered.

Okay, the truth is I used primary colors and also gold.
The boys love the gold paint, and painting it on a rock was no exception.
The rock went from something we see every day to a large golden gem found at the end of the rainbow. You can imagine the conversation that blossomed around this. In the past, we have painting sticks and next time need to remember to add the gold for this activity as well.

- Use builder’s paper from a home improvement store to layer your tabletop. This paper is typically found in the painting aisle.
Sprinkle the rocks around the front yard (the paint may wash away) or add a little decor to the bedrooms.
Such a simple activity prompt creativity and color mixing.
