I introduced this color matching activity as a one-person game.
Why? Well, I wanted to make breakfast, drink my tea, and encourage a little independent morning play. I call these ideas Breakfast Invitations and you can watch a short video about them on our homepage.

Knife or scissors to cut the slots in the egg crate
Super simple, right? We like to keep activity supplies to a minimum. A little goes a long way!
I set this color-matching memory activity up in five minutes.
We are all overworked and exhausted. I certainly don’t have time to cut, paste, and laminate. But I do have time for a simple setup that will inspire play.
Gather 12 craft sticks and two of each color to the ends.
Cut a small slice into the top of each section of your egg crate.
Tape your egg crate down to prevent it from rising every time a craft stick is pulled.
Insert one colored stick into each slot.
Now your toddler is ready to color match! I invited my three-year-old to pick a color and see if he can find the matching pair.
